Esme and Carlisle go to the same highschool. I know this is completely out of Twilight
story line, but it's a fanFICTION, and I got the idea, so....
Esme's POV
I was in 11th grade at Forks, highschool, and I was a vampire. Everyone knew
about Vampires, and they had special products for us now. I was just an average girl,
got along with everybody, nobody really hated me. There was this guy-Carlisle Cullen-
who was really, really shy. He didn't have many friends, he kept to himself, but he
was so, so intelligent-got 100 percents on EVERY test- and so handsome. He had girls
falling all over him wherever he walked, but he stuttered like a madman everytime he
tried to talk to a girl. He was bullied alot, since he was so shy, and he was a bit of
a dork-a really hot dork. He always had slacks and either a sweater, a button-down
shirt, or a button down shirt and a sweater vest. I loved it when he wore this outfit,
it was a dark blue, zip-up sweater and a lighter blue, button-down shirt underneath.
(carlisle's outfit that he wears in the scene when they're at the cullen house) That
sweater clung to his chest and showed just how muscular he was. He played on the
school's baseball team, and was the MVP.
The day of the big rivalry game for the baseball team, I went up and talked to
him. "Hey, you. How are ya'?"
He was on his knees, getting books out of his locker, but he rose and smiled at me,
bowing slightly.
"I-I'm good...h...how are you?"
I giggled. He was blushing a bit and it was one of the hottest things I had EVER
seen. "I'm good, thanks. Hey, I think I'm coming to the game tonight. What position
do you play?"
"P-p-p-p-pitcher...s...sometimes outfield..."
"Wow. You must be good then."
He blushed even more, then the bell rang and he hurriedly gathered his books and ran
to class. When I got to algebra (our second period class) I saw him sitting in the
back, right corner. He was just minding his own business, reading a book until class
started. I walked back and sat beside him, and he just looked up at me, nodded and
smiled, and went back to his book.
"What'cha readin'?"
He chuckled a bit, blushing slightly. "a m-medical....m-murder mystery...."
"You're into medicine?"
He chuckled a bit, scratching the back of his head nervously. "Yeah...."
I giggled. He was so cute! "Hey, what time is that baseball game?"
"Huh? oh...s...seven..."
"Cool. I'll try to be there."
He blushed bright red, and just then the teacher walked in. Perfect timing.
That night at the baseball game, our team totally creamed the other team.
Carlisle was a wonderful baseball player, getting at least three homeruns. He pitched
out three innings in a row, and when the game was over, I met him on his way out with
his father, little sister and little brother.
"Carlisle! Hi!" I ran up to him. "Good game! You're a great ball player!"
He blushed. "Thanks...ah..." He turned to his family. "Th...this is my dad." He motioned
to a man that was only about an inch taller than him with lighter hair and an older,
harder face. "M-my sister...a...Alice...." He motioned to a short little girl with
dark hair that was short and flipped out. "A...and my b-brother....e....Edward...."
He motioned to a boy that was at least a foot shorter than him and had broze hair that
was disheveled and a brooding look. They all had the gold eyes of a vegetarian vampire.
"Hi." I said, smiling. His little sister beamed at me, while his father and brother
meerly nodded in greeting.
"Carlisle, quit stuttering like an idiot and let's go home!" His father yanked his
ear and dragged him toward the parking lot.
"B-bye, Esme....th...thanks!"
"Bye....." I wondered if that was how his father always treated him, or if he was in
a bad mood.
The next day, when I came into school, Carlisle was getting his books again,
minding his own business. My locker was right across from his, so I got my books and
while I was, I heard the older boys harrassing him.
"Hey, Cullen. What books you got? Medical crap?!" They knocked the books out of his
hands, and pinned him to his locker. I gasped, and watched as the punched him in the
stomach, took the money out of his wallet and threw it in his face. They walked away,
and I rushed to his side.
"Are you okay?!"
"Y...yeah...I-I'm alright."
"You sure?" I helped him stand up straight, then picked up his books.
"Y-yeah...th...thanks..."
I hugged him, and OH MY GOD! I wanted to just curl up to his chest and stay there. I
only came up to his chin, so when I hugged him, I was hit by either his cologne or
aftershave as soon as I got remotely close. Although he was muscular, it seemed like
he was so...soft, so warm. He wrapped his free arm around me, and it felt so right,
in his arms. I started curling up to his chest, but the bell rang, and we parted.
"Thank you."
In gym class that day, we were on the same dodgeball team. God, he was SO HOT!
We both got out, though, and when we were on the sidelines, we started talking.
"So, how old is Edward?"
"Huh? O-oh....f...fourteen..."
"You're actually younger than me, aren't you?"
He raised an eyebrow. "No..."
"I thought you skipped a grade?"
"Oh...I...I did, b...but I s-started school...a...a year late, so..."
"So, when the rest of us were five in kindgergarten, you were six?"
"Y...yeah..."
"But, we're both 17, right?"
"Well....I-I'm actually 16, but..."
"Oh. When's your birthday?"
"L...Later i-in the year...."
"How much later?"
"E...end of school."
"Oh." We watched the game for a few seconds, then I turned to him again. "How old is
Alice?"
"S-six."
"She's spunky." I said, giggling.
He grimaced. "You have NO idea..."
I giggled and he turned to me, smiling. I loved that smile. They blew the whistle to
start a new game, and we ran out into the gym again. Our team won that game, and
the gym teacher blew the whistle to go back to the locker rooms. Before anybody had
left the gym, a boy beside Carlisle screamed,
"CARLISLE CULLEN LOVES ESME PLATT!" I looked at Carlisle, and he was blushing bright
red. He ran into the locker room, and when I came out from changing my clothes, he was
jogging down the hall. I caught up to him, and grabbed his sleeve.
"Hey. What's wrong?"
"I...I'm sorry, I-I shouldn't....I shouldn't have said anything..."
"What are you talking about?"
"Y...You're not...Embarrassed to know....to knwo that someone..." He scoffed in disgust
"Someone like me likes you?"
"What do you mean, 'Someone like you?'" The bell rang for our next class. "I want to
talk to you about this later."
Later, at lunch, I found him sitting at a table, by himself, reading a book
and drinking a bottle of blood. I sat down in front of him, and he put his book down.
"Hello."
"What did you mean, someone like you?"
He sighed. "A...A nerd, a dork a....whatever....a-an unpopular k-kid."
I gently lay my hand on his. "Is that why you're so shy? Why you're so nervous? Why you
keep to yourself so much? You think you're...." I laughed at the idea. "You're not
that at all, trust me. You're just very polite, and girls like that in guys, at least
I do." I smiled. "I'm actually glad you like me, because I like you, too."
The shy smile left his face. "You don't mean that."
I stroked his face, and he leaned in to my touch, closing his eyes. "If I didn't mean
it, why am I still here? If I didn't mean it, why am I doing this?"
"Both are very true." He said, eyes still closed. He sighed. "You can't imagine how
that feels." I stroked his cheek with my thumb, and he wrapped his hand aroud my free
hand. He smiled a bit, amusement in his eyes. "So, is next Friday night alright?"
"Are you asking me out?"
"Informally, yes." He smiled. "That's the only time I don't have a game on a Friday
for another few weeks."
"Sure. Sounds good to me." I smiled. "See you're not so nervous now."
He chuckled. "Yeah..."
The next day, after school, I was driving past the elementary school, (our
school disctrict was two different buildings, k-6 and 7-12) and saw Carlisle's little
sister crying on the curb. I stopped and got out, really concerned.
"Honey, what's wrong? What happened?" the entire school was cleared out, not even the
teachers were there. We left later than they did because we started later, but usually,
by the time we got out, all of the younger kids were gone.
She drew in a big, shaky breath and between sobs, said. "C...Carwowl was...s...supposed
to...p....pick me up!...."
I had to smile at how she pronounced his name. "Honey, he had baseball practice after
school. The coach just told him today, he changed the schedule. I can take you to
watch him practice, if you want."
She sniffed and wiped the tear from her eyes. "O...Okay." I let her sit in the front
seat of my car, and drove back to the highschool, and to the baseball practice field.
We sat up in the bleachers, and watched them. They were just starting their warmups,
and were doing something called 'suicide'. After they had finished that, the coach made
them run around the practice field a few times, then let them relax for a moment.
"GO CARWOWL!" Alice screamed from the bleachers. Carlisle turned to us, and smiled and
waved. We sat through the practice, and when they were done with their practice game,
Carlisle trotted over to us.
"Hey." He said, a bit out of breath.
"You fowgot to pick me up, Carwowl."
"Oh! That's right! I'm so sorry! I....Honey, the coach just told me today, right in the
middle of our math class! I'm so sorry, honey!"
"It's okay, Carwowl."
"Can I have a hug?"
"Don't pwess your wuck."
Carlisle laughed. "what was that?!" He picked her up and held her upside down. "Raaawr!!"
Alice squeeled and giggled while Carlisle swung her upside down. When he put her down,
she stumbled back a bit, but he caught her. "Can I have a hug now?"
"Yeah." she hugged him, and he turned and kissed her. He picked her up and held her
on his hip, I almost cracked up laughing. It was the typical mom pose. We all drove to
his house together, and just hung out for a bit. I love playing with Alice. She was
so cute. When Edward came home, with Carlisle's father, he saw me, and only nodded.
When Carlisle left the room to cook dinner, Edward came in and sat down beside me.
"Carlisle's always been more of a father to us than our actual father ever was."
"O...Oh?...."
"Yeah. Don't you dare break his heart. He's been through enough."
Aw. Edward loved his big brother! "Don't worry, honey, I won't. Ah....where's your mom?"
"Our mom died when Carlisle was only eight years old. I was six, and Alice wasn't even
born yet."
"So....Alice is adopted?"
"Yes. Our father always wanted a girl and a boy, so...."
"I'm sorry to hear about your mother." Edward and I talked for a while, and we all ate
dinner together. Man, Carlisle could COOK! I went home shortly after, and dreamed about
my day with him.
The friday of our date, Carlisle wasn't in school. I saw Edward in the hallway,
and asked him. "Where's Carlisle?"
He looked around. We were surrounded by people. "Carlisle's very sick...He'll be out
for a while." He pressed a note into my hand, and when I got to my next class, I read
it. It said:
Dad beat Carlisle senseles last night for coming home late and back-talking
him when he asked him where he was, and saying that he cares more for us that he does.
(which is true.) Carlisle's in the hospital. I'll take you to him after school if you
want.
After school, I met Edward at the door, and we drove to the hospital after picking up
Alice. I felt bad that she had to wait again, but her father didn't show up, so we had
to pick her up. Edward led me to Carlisle's room, and when I saw him, I gasped. An
oxygen mask was strapped on his face, and his forehead was bandaged, gauze taped to his
forehead under the bandages. he had more gauze taped to his cheek, his arm was in a
cast, his ankle in a brace, and most likely more bandages under his hospital gown and
blankets.
"Is he asleep?" I whispered, touching his hand.
"Yeah."
"Has he been awake since he's been here?"
"Not really....About half awake, just opening his eyes, then closing them again. He'll
be really tired for a while."
"Yeah...Do you mind if I stay here for while?"
"Nope. He'd be worrying about who's watching us if you weren't here, so, it's probably
best that you stay."
I wrapped my hands around his hand that didn't have the IV in it. I wasn't sure if he
did it consciously, if it was part of a dream, or if his hand was twitching, but his
hand twitched to tighten around mine just a tiny bit. I waited a bit, and he woke up.
As soon as he opened his eyes, I moved my hand to stroke his cheek, but his hand
tightened around my other hand. "Hey. How're you feelin'?"
"Nhh....Es...me?...." He blinked a few times. "How...how did you...g...get here?"
"Edward told me, and I drove to the hospital with him and your little sister. When he
told me I was so worried, Carlisle. I'm so glad you're okay."
He smiled a bit. "Thanks...for coming....to see me...."
"If it makes you feel better, I'll skip school to stay here."
He chuckled a little, but winced. "No. I....appre...ciate....you coming....now..."
"I'll come everyday after school. I promise."
He smiled. "Thank...you..."
I got as close as I could to his bed, and wrapped my arms around him. He lay his head
on my shoulder and nuzzled me. I sat on his bed, his head still on my shoulder, and
stroked his back until he fell asleep. Then, I played with his hair for a while. Alice
kicked her shoes off and crawled into his bed, waking him up. "Hey, honey." he croaked.
"Hi Carwowl." She lay her hand on his chest, and his eyes widened and he groaned.
"H-Honey....Y-you're gonna have to....like...."
"Here, honey." I moved her arm so that it was around Carlisle's neck, and he lay his
head back down and turned it slightly so that it was against Alice's.
"Th....Thanks..."
"Yeah. Is that better?"
"Much...."
"I wove you Carwowl."
"Love you....Alice...."
I stayed with him for the night, and until he was released from the hospital
two weeks later. On the way out of the hospital on crutches and in a bit of pain, he
was worried about going back home to his father, though he didn't say anything, I
could tell.
"You can come home with me for a while. My parents know. I already asked them. They
don't mind."
"I...I couldn't leave Alice and Edward...."
"They can come, too. We'll wait until he goes to work, then we'll go get your stuff."
He smiled thoughtfully. "Esme....thank you so much...."
"It's no problem. I love you." I kissed his cheek and hugged him gently, which I had
done a lot of over the past week or two. "I'm glad your feeling better."
"Thank you. For everything." We got into the car, Carlisle in the back seat with Alice
and Edward in the front with me, and drove home. At a stop light, I turned and looked
to Carlisle. Alice was curled up to him, asleep, and he was looking out the window.
Edward was asleep, too, which left Carlisle and I time to talk.
"What are you thinking about?"
"How I'm going to avoid him. How I'm going to keep them safe."
"You don't intend to run, do you?"
"No. I just have to keep them away from him so he doesn't hurt them."
"Has he always been abusive?"
"Towards me, yes. But, that's because I've always told them to hide when he gets
agressive. I don't want them getting hurt."
"Are you going to fight him? In court?"
He sighed. "I don't know...Maybe..." He sighed through his nose and lay his head
against the window. "It'd be so nice if I could just....Move to the country, just
close enough to you, though, and take care of htem myself."
"You couldn't do it, Carlisle." I looked in the rear-view mirror. He wasn't looking at
me, but out the window. "You wouldn't be able to pay for it. Besides, when do you get
the chance to be a teenager? To have fun?"
"I know...I get the chance to be normal and have fun at school and at baseball. I've
been forced to give up that part of my life because of my father."
"You know what? When you're off the crutches and feeling 100%, I'm going to take you
to an amusement park or something..."
He chuckled. "Ah....thank you?..."
He stayed with me for a while, sued his father, won, and, even though his
father still had custody, if Carlisel so much as came to school with a bruise, he
would be hooked up to a lie detector test and asked if his father beat him. A few
months later, when the amusement parks were open again, He took me there on a date.
"Have you ever been to one of these before?"
"Nope."
"NO?!" I was shocked. surely, his father had to have SOME heart.
We had the best time at the park, and Carlisle took me there anytime I asked
him to, which was pretty often.
